Why do we spend our days
doing things we don't want to do?
When good things start
happening, why do we sabotage ourselves?
There was a time after college,
when I considered myself a complete failure. For about a
dozen years I struggled to find my way in the world. In
reality I had many great days, weeks and even months of
financial success, but I always managed to throw it away and
end up back where I started.... with nothing.
I was sabotaging myself. I
knew it at the time, but didn't know how to change it.
Why would I do such a thing? Didn't I want success?
Was I afraid of it?
That may have been part of it.
But more importantly in my subconscious mind, I didn't believe
I was worthy of success. It's not that I was an evil
person, but like most young people I had made my share of
mistakes. I hadn't been going to church, had been
partying too much and broken a few hearts. Being raised
in a Scandinavian / Lutheran family, you are definitely taught
the art of feeling guilty. In fact, guilt is a primary
tool used by Scandinavian parents to keep the children in
line. Looking back, I can see now that guilt played a
big role in my failure in those early years.
Subconsciously, I didn't feel worthy of success.
On top of that, I was young
looking and always felt intimidated when potential clients
would comment on how young I looked or ask me how old I was.
People often said I couldn't be old enough to be in business
for myself. On the surface, I brushed it off but it must
have made an impression on my subconscious mind.
How do you feel?
Do you feel you are worthy of abundance? If not, you
need to find out why you feel that way and how to get past it.
Here's how I got past it.
#1 - I started selling
online. No one could tell who I was, how old I was or
what I looked like when they visited one of my web sites.
Unless of course I put my picture on it, which I didn't.
#2 - Before I could
succeed, I had to change my thoughts about God.
Growing up, I had apparently
developed the attitude that God was like a ruler, a judge and
who was eventually going to "judge me" for all the bad
things I had done. Until then, he was going to make my
life miserable because I wasn't living the way I should.
The reason my business was failing was because I was a bad
person and didn't deserve success. It was only after I began
to learn the truth, that everything turned around for me.
I began to listen to Dr Wayne Dyer and he said it something
like this......
"God is not withholding.... What if you knew a person that
had everything you needed for your happiness but refused to
give you anything unless you do his bidding, ask properly and
behave as he wants you to. Furthermore, he has the ability to
heal you of what ails you, but allows you to suffer for now
and may consider healing you at some future date.
This would not be a very
nice person, much less a very nice God.
Is this the type of withholding, punishing God that you
imagine? In the scriptures it clearly says "Everything I have
is yours". Whatever you need in the present moment is yours.
You are not being punished. God does not exist to punish you
as it would be inconsistent with a loving, forgiving God."
The first time I heard this, it made sense to me. I had
struggled for several years in both business and my personal
life because I felt God was punishing me for not being a
better person. This feeling that "God Was Punishing Me" lead
to self sabotage, further failures, more depression
and additional hardships. It wasn't until I turned around
these feelings that things started to change for me.
Why Did I Share This With You?
Because I've told this story
quite a few times in the past few years and many people relate
having the same feelings. There seems to be an epidemic
of guilt in our society that leads to Low Self Esteem.
If you are someone who doesn't feel worthy of success, you
won't achieve it. Your Subconscious Mind is very
powerful and if you don't feel worthy of success, that is what
your Subconscious Mind will deliver for you..... a world
without success.
Back to "The Great Secret Of
Life".... You must use your Objective Mind, to train
your Subconscious Mind. The only way to do this is to
repeatedly tell yourself "I Deserve Abundance In My Life".
It's not enough to just say it, but you must also believe it.
Think about this for a
moment. Do you have anyone in your life that you
love? Maybe your parents, children, a spouse or good
friend?
If so, do you like to see them
suffer or do you want them to be healthy and happy? You
want them to be healthy and happy right?
Well, if average human being
has this level of compassion, wouldn't it make sense that God
( the source of all love and creation ) would also be at
least as compassionate?
God wants the best for you.
Whatever you decide is your purpose in life, you have to
believe in it. You have to know that:
- The resources you need will
come to your aid.
- That everything will fall into place at the right time.
- That even when you don't see a clear path, it will be
revealed to you in time.
In order to secure a more abundant life, you must believe
you deserve it.
Your Exercise:
Each Morning watch the
visualization tool
to start your day.
It takes lots of repetition before your subconscious mind
begins to accept abundance as your reality. So watch it
every morning and during the day whenever you feel down.
After you watch it, simply close your eyes and imagine
yourself living the reality of your choice. Try to do
this at least once per day for 10 minutes.
At the end of your second week,
you can start using the Level 2
visualization tool. The affirmations are a bit more
advanced than those found in Level 1.
In the Next Lesson:
We will look at the difference
between manifestation and wishful thinking. Many people
do not understand the difference as they may seem similar, but
it's like comparing a good night's sleep to a coma.
